It can be hard to get your kids interested in Shakespeare, but Polka Theatre’s rendition of Romeo & Juliet aims to make it a little more palatable for younger audiences. The tragic love story of star-crossed lovers is being re-told through rap and rhythms, all in an urban and recognisable setting. Kicking off this Thursday and continuing throughout the weekend, it will host themed events paying homage to the splendour of the 1920s, complete with cabaret, live music and show-dining. Thursday evening starts with a champagne reception on the mezzanine, plus a blend of archival footage from the days of Café De Paris before live acts, music and a grand banquet. BFI Flare Festival

The British Film Institute’s LGBTQIA+ Film Festival returns this week. Expect plenty of screenings of blockbuster favourites such as All Of Us Strangers – starring Paul Mescal and Andrew Scott – as well as more underground films, shorts and documentaries exploring sex, love, friendship, relationships and identity. Plus, there are plenty of interesting panel talks on offer, too. Can’t make it this weekend? BFI will be hosting a best of the fest screening on Sunday 24th March to give viewers a second chance.

British Science Week

It's British Science Week, and where better to embrace this year’s theme of ‘time’ than at the home of Greenwich Mean Time, The Royal Observatory? This weekend there’s a roster of workshops, events and special screenings that all the family will enjoy. Friday evening features a lecture on supermassive black holes, while Saturday and Sunday offer a drop-in session on astrophotography, along with a special screening of Back To The Future. While most of the events are free, do check the website for more information and events little ones to get involved with.
