Everything A Fashion Consultant Is Loving Right Now

The reason we keep going back to fashion consultant Laura Vidrequin Roso is simple: she has great taste. And not just when it comes to clothes – she’s equally clued up on beauty, travel and food. Here are her latest recommendations…

FASHION

The Under-The-Radar Labels

My days are hectic with work and the kids. I like to be able to go from meetings to being at home in style, and therefore look for brands and pieces that give me a sense of feeling put together – while also being comfortable. Donni is really good for that. Its trousers are so soft and basically feel like pyjamas, but you can style them up with a shirt and sandals too. I’ve also been looking at Attersee. The fabrics and the cuts are sleek and elevated, plus it always incorporates unique detailing which makes the pieces feel more modern. I’ve got my eyes on a fringed A-line skirt right now. Liberowe is another favourite of mine. Its French designer Talitha creates pretty sets that are feminine but not girly. The material is rigid yet comfortable, and the pieces work well from day to night.

The High-Street Favourite

I’m really into Massimo Dutti at the moment. It’s nailing the designs, the campaigns and, most importantly, the product. The price for the quality is good, plus the approach it’s taken to this season’s trends is very subtle, which means the pieces will be wearable season after season.

The Denim Go-Tos

At the moment I’m looking at the DL1961  Desi Bootcuts. They’re light wash, straight leg and high waisted, but aren’t too tight on the hip. They’re also long and flared at the bottom, falling perfectly on any type of shoe. I also recently got the Citizens Of Humanity Ayla jeans. They’re a similar vibe and I wear them with a crisp white shirt and some jewellery – perhaps silver bangles and a men’s watch.

The Spring Staple

I’ve been loving a masculine barn jacket, and have fallen for this one from The Row. However, I’ve managed to find some great dupes at brands like Free People and Zara

The Sunglasses

I’m drawn to very classic shapes from PersolRay-Ban or Moscot for every day. But sometimes, especially in the summer, I love going for funky ones from brands like Delarge or Loewe.

The Outfit Formula

I’m into sets at the moment, and have lived in velvet trousers and a cashmere knit over the winter months. I tend to opt for a similar silhouette and outfit choice in the spring too, just switching up the fabrics and going for lighter colours instead.

The Style Rule

My style rule has not changed much over the years: if I can’t wear something at least five ways, it is not worth a place in my wardrobe. I have a small closet, so I can't add much that I won't use, which makes me mindful with my purchases.

The Footwear

While I don't tend to follow trends, I do dip my toe in with footwear and accessories. I could speak about shoes for hours – I used to buy shoes for NET-A-PORTER, so I have a very clear vision of what I like. This season, I’m looking at boat shoes and slipper-inspired shapes. I got lucky and managed to snap the Miu Miu ones up when they were released – I have styled them with denim and a sweater during this transitional season. I also love the Camargue desert boots in beige suede from La Botte Gardiane. They’re a great in-between shoe that works well for days in London.

BEAUTY

The Essentials

Vitamin C is my go-to skincare ingredient at the moment. My facialist mentioned it was the best thing to use first thing in the morning – so obviously I listened. Apparently, it helps boost the skin and is a strong antioxidant. I use the one from Sunday Riley, which is light and easy to apply. I’m not into thousand-step routines, so I tend to keep things quite simple. My only real ritual is religiously washing my face with Biologique Recherche P50 once a week, and the rest of the time I use Bioderma. I don’t leave the house without wearing Ilia’s foundation, which is an extremely hydrating product.

The New Discovery

I’ve recently been introduced to Neuraé. The team has worked for over ten years with neuroscientists to create the perfect combination of textures and scents to have a certain effect on the skin and the brain. I believe in the intimate relationship between skin and the brain, as well as the brain and overall health. It is so refreshing to see a brand offer a complete approach to the senses, not just another face cream to target the signs of ageing.

The Budget Hero

Homeoplasmine from French pharmacies is a life saver. I can now find it in London too, which is so handy. It revives my cracked lips or any dry areas on my body. It’s also good for brows — particularly as mine are quite hard to tame.

The Fragrances

Herbes Troublantes from Guerlain is a go-to this season, and I’ve worn Le Labo’s Another 13 for over a decade.

TRAVEL & CULTURE

The Destination

I just got back from Morocco . I’ve loved watching it evolve over the years I’ve been going there. If you have the chance to go, make sure you visit El Fenn for lunch or dinner and Scarabeo camp for an immersive evening in the middle of the desert. Elsewhere, Al Fassia has the best tagine. A slightly more under-the-radar thing to do is go to Le Beldi for a pottery class and to explore the amazing shopping. La Medina is the best place to lose yourself and just enjoy meeting the people. Soufiane is great for home décor and Royal Mansour has a good spa.

The Staycation

In London, I’d stay at the Portobello Hotel. I love the mix of wallpaper and furniture, which is super classic English and makes it feel like a country house in the city. If I could go a bit further out, it would be Alexandra Tolstoy’s cottage. It’s so cosy and it’s in the Cotswolds.

The Night-Out Plans

On a Saturday night out in London, I’d most likely be hosting a dinner at home or at a friend's house. I’ve kept this habit up from my days living in NYC where Thursdays were the big night out rather than a Saturday. When we do go out on Thursday or Friday, I am either at a local pub in W10 or an Indian restaurant. We are so lucky to live in a city filled with such great options. I personally love TrishnaJamavarBombay Bustle and Gymkhana

The Favourite Restaurant

I think Gymkhana is my favourite place to go out. I love everything on the menu but the chicken butter masala is my must-order – with red wine. Preferably in the winter. I also love Chinese and Mexican food, so if the weather is a bit warmer this is where you’ll find me. I love Taqueria for a takeaway. It’s so nice on a movie night. My favourite dish is corn on cob – which is served with butter sauce and parmesan, as well as avocado.

The Podcast

I am listening to Andrew Huberman a lot. He’s a neuroscientist who interviews interesting guests. An episode I particularly loved was with Becky Kennedy on parenting, which touches also on relationships in general. She had some great insights.

The Music

I’m really particular about music but don’t have the time to curate my own playlists, so one of my favourites is actually from the yoga studio I go to – it’s called ‘Love Supreme’. I also like the ones curated by the Oblist.
